Show InfoThe play takes place in the spring of 1940. anti-Fascist German engineer Kurt Muller arrives with his American-born wife, Sara (Bette Davis), and their three children, at the home of Sara’s mother, Fanny Farrelly, in Washington, D.C. The Mullers have enduring 17 difficult years in Europe, where Kurt has engaged in underground resistance to the rising Nazi threat. Unscrupulous Romanian count Teck de Brancovis, a houseguest of Fanny’s, discovers Kurt’s secret and threatens to expose his activities to his contacts at the German embassy.

Sara MullerF35-45Kurt's wife but she was born and raised in America. Devoted wife to Kurt and mother to her three children who has obviously dealt with much hardship yet she has never complained. She has no problem standing up to her forceful mother and holds the same beliefs as her husband.
Fanny FarrellyF60-79Sara's mother, American. Domineering society matron who is used to getting what she wants. She expects people to do as she says. Despite her abrasive nature, she loves her daughter and son, David. Her biggest flaw may be how naive and oblivious to the evil forces not only in the world but in her own home.
Teck De BrancovisM40-59He's a Count of Romanian descent staying at the Farrelly home. He and his wife, Marthe, are basically penniless and have stayed past their welcome. Teck has tried to establish Nazi ties with his visits to the German embassy. Ruthless, cunning and unscrupulous, Teck will do anything for money, including selling information on Kurt to the Nazis.

Marthe De BrancovisF30-45Born and raised in America, Marthe was forced into marriage with Kurt and it?s obvious she despises him and everything he stands for. It's also no secret that she is in love with Fanny?s son, David.
David FarrellyM30-49Fanny's son and Sara's brother, American. Like his mother, David has also led a somewhat sheltered life is oblivious to world events. Handsome and charming, he is obviously attracted to Marthe. In his mother?s eye, he has never quite lived up to the man his father was. As events unravel in the Farrelly household, he discovers an inner strength that he didn?t realize he possessed.
AniseF60-79French housekeeper and begrudging friend of Fanny. She is a proud woman who stands up to Fanny Farrelly?s overbearing nature, sometimes gets nervous or excited.
