InstructionsPlease prepare 16-32 bars of a Broadway style song that you are confident singing and that shows off your voice/range. You may sing from the show, however, if auditioning for Jo please avoid using “Astonishing” and “The Fire within Me” as we will sing those later in the audition process. You may be asked to stay and sing a portion of one of the songs listed in the character descriptions. Please be familiar with them before auditioning.

Show InfoBased on Louisa May Alcott’s timeless story, ‘Little Women the Musical’ brings the novel to life with a captivating narrative and a beautiful original score. The story follows the lives of the four March sisters, all of whom refuse to follow convention in their own way. These characters feel just as relevant and important today as when they were written 150 years ago. ‘Little Women’ embodies the complete theatrical experience, guaranteeing a night filled with laughter, tears, hope and inspiration.

She is a tomboy and reacts with impatience to the many limitations placed on women and girls. She hates romance in her real life, and wants nothing more than to hold her family together. Strong singer and actor. She is the driving presence of the show.
Vocal range: E3 – A5 must be able to sing classical as well as possess a strong belt

Meg March (Lead)F20-30The oldest March sister; she yearns for a great life; responsible and kind, Meg mothers her younger sisters; she has a small weakness for luxury and leisure, but the greater part of her is gentle, loving, and moral. She marries John Brooke; Strong classical singer, ability to hold harmonies; also plays Clarissa in Jo’s story.
Vocal range: A#3–Gb5
Songs to Know - Song: The ending to “More Than I Am” starting from “Ill marry you tomorrow...”
Beth March (Lead)F16-25The second youngest sister; she is sweet, quiet and virtuous. The peacemaker of the family, she sees the good in everyone but especially Jo. She adores music and plays the piano very well; ability to hold harmonies; also plays Rodrigo in Jo’s story.
Vocal range: A3–G5.
Songs to Know - Song: “Some Things Are Meant to Be” (first verse & chorus)
Amy March (Lead)F16-25The youngest sister, with a rather pompous, often downright bratty manner, an artist who adores visual beauty and has a weakness for pretty possessions; she is given to pouting, fits of temper, and vanity; but she does attempt to improve herself in Act 2; requires an actor with the ability to play her at 2 different ages (practically a child into a young woman) Ability to hold harmonies; also plays The Troll in Jo’s story.
Vocal range: Cb4–Gb5.
Theodore Laurence III aka Laurie (Lead)M18-30The boy-next-door who is the same age as Jo; becomes like a brother to the March sisters; charming, clever, has a good heart; he befriends Jo but is rejected when he proposes; he later bonds with Amy; Strong tenor; also plays Rodrigo in Jo’s story.
Vocal range: Bb2–Bb4.

Marmee (Lead)F40+ The backbone of the March family; strong, steady, the moral role model for her daughters; she councils them through all of their problems and works hard but happily while her husband is at war; Strong singer/actress
Vocal range: Eb3–Eb5.
Songs to Know - Song: “Days of Plenty”
Professor Bhaer (Supporting)M30-45A respected professor in Germany who becomes an impoverished language instructor in America. Lives in New York, where he meets Jo. He is kind, honest and serious. Encourages Jo to be “better” and to write what she knows rather than fantasy stories. Must be able to speak with a believable German accent.

Songs to Know - Song: “How I Am”
Aunt March (Supporting)F50+A rich widow. Although crotchety and difficult, Aunt March loves her nieces and wants the best for them, though she believes she knows what that is above anyone else. This character has quite a vocal range going from E3-F5 in her duet with Jo- Please listen to “Could You” to be aware of vocal range necessary. Also plays the Hag in Jo’s story.
John Brooke (Supporting)M25-45Written for a tenor but will consider non-singers for this role (shifting the duet “More Than I Am” into a solo sung by Meg) Laurie’s tutor, Meg’s love interest: stiff, scholarly, but kind. Softens his demeanor upon meeting Meg. Also plays Braxton in Jo’s story.
Mr. Laurence (Supporting)M50+Laurie’s grandfather and the Marches’ next-door neighbor. Mr. Laurence seems gruff, but underneath is loving and kind. Forms an unlikely friendship with Beth, who reminds him of his own deceased daughter. Also plays the Soldier in Jo’s story.
