Audition Details

Show The Addams Family
Company Maggie’s Little Theater
Notes Production week schedule TBD at a later date. Please bring your calendar to the audition in order to list your current conflicts. If cast in “”The Addams Family”” and subsequently auditioning for another production performing after “”The Addams Family”” is over, “”The Addams Family”” is your priority and these rehearsals are your conflicts for that production. Maggie’s Little Theater requires all cast members to perform volunteer activities outside of their role. Examples are: hall setup, distributing flyers and posters, set strike, production tasks, or similar.
Instructions Please come prepared with a song of your choice (it may be, but does not have to be, from the show) that also shows your acting abilities, and bring sheet music in the correct key for the accompanist. You will be learning a short dance routine, so please wear comfortable clothing.

Please come to the audition prepared to complete the application sheet. Pictures and resumes are welcome, but not necessary. Auditionees may be asked to read singly or with others. If necessary, auditionees may be asked to return for a call back. We ask that you be respectful of the other auditionees and maintain a quiet attitude.

Roles

Role M/F Age Description
Morticia Addams F 40-55 In shape, attractive, leggy, the strength of the family. An easy comedic actress with a sexy, dry wit. Feels her husband is hiding something from her and will use any tactic to lure the secret out. A strong dancer/mover with alto/mezzo soprano vocals. The real head of the family… low-voiced, incisive and subtle, smiles are rare… ruined beauty… contemptuous and original and with fierce family loyalty… even in disposition, muted, witty, sometimes deadly… given to low-keyed rhapsodies about her garden of deadly nightshade, henbane and dwarf’s hair.
Vocal Range: Alto – G sharp to B flat.
Wednesday Addams F 16-21 Wednesday is an attractive, in shape girl who has the same dry wit and sensibility of her mother. Finds love with a “normal” boy (Lucas) and wants to introduce his family to hers. Experiences the youthful drama that comes with first love. Lucas can actually put a smile on her face. Strong pop belt vocals. Child of woe is wane and delicate… sensitive and on the quiet side, she loves the picnics and outings to the underground caverns… a solemn child, prim in dress and, on the whole, pretty lost… secretive and imaginative, poetic, seems underprivileged and given to occasional tantrums… has six toes on one foot.
Vocal Range: Soprano – A sharp to E sharp.
Uncle Fester M 30-40 The androgynous family member who serves as the musicals narrator. He is larger than life, an energetic, joyous, child-like presence. A vaudeville style comedian with tenor vocals. Uncle Fester is incorrigible and except for the good nature of the family and the ignorance of the police, would ordinarily be under lock and key… the eyes are pig-like and deeply embedded… he likes to fish, but usually employs dynamite… he keeps falcons on the roof which he uses for hunting… his one costume, summer and winter is a black great coat with an enormous collar… he is fat with pudgy little hands and feet.
Vocal Range: Tenor – C sharp to C sharp (preferably at belt).
Lucas Beineke M 18-24 Attractive in shape young man. Fell in love with Wednesday Addams and plans to marry her. Experiences the youthful pain and drama of young love and struggles with the differences between his family and the Addams family. Contemporary pop tenor vocals. Lucas is (for the most part), a fairly normal person. He writes poetry and is apparently a romantic. He also has a crazy and dark side, proven during “Crazier Than You”. He also seems to believe in traditional things like getting his parents blessing before getting married.
Vocal Range: Tenor – C sharp to C sharp.
Alice Beineke F 30-40 Mother of Lucas, devoted to her family so she puts aside her own desires. In shape, quirky female who often speaks in rhyme. While at the Addams Family dinner party, she drinks a potion that causes her to let her hair down and speak her truth. Comedic actress with soprano / belt vocals.
Vocal Range: Soprano – A flat to G sharp.
Pugsley Addams M 10-14 A charming, funny, husky boy who loves being tortured by his sister. He wants to ensure he won’t lose his sister to her new boyfriend so he takes matters into his own hands. Strong, high vocals. Voice not yet changed. An energetic monster of a boy … and a dedicated troublemaker, in other words the kid next door… genius in his own way, he makes toy guillotines, full-size racks, threatens to poison his sister, can turn himself into a Mr. Hyde with an ordinary chemical set… his voice is hoarse… is sometimes allowed an occasional cigar.
Vocal Range: Tenor – A sharp to F sharp.
Mal Beineke M 40-55 Stuffy father of Lucas and exasperated husband to his rhyming wife, Alice. At one time was a follower of The Grateful Dead but has lost that side of himself. Always looking out for his family. Male actor with high baritone/ tenor vocals.
Vocal Range: Tenor – C sharp to A sharp.
Grandmama F 60-80 She is a feisty 102 year old woman. Fun and quirky, but don’t mess with Grandma. Comedic actress with strong character vocals. This disrespectful old hag is the mother of Gomez… she willingly helps with the dishes, cheats at solitaire and is roughly dishonest… the complexion is dark, the hair is white and frizzy and uncombed… she has a light beard and a large mole… foolishly good-natured… fumbling, weak character… is easily fooled.
Vocal Range: Belt – G sharp to F sharp.
Lurch M 30-60 A very tall male character, the Addams butler who knows all. He speaks in moans and groans without becoming a cartoon version of himself. His movement is always very slow Character actor with a low bass vocals.
Vocal Range: Bass – E flat to E sharp.
Chorus/Ancestors M/F 0+ All chorus members will be assigned an Addams Family Ancestor “”character”” and therefore have their own cameo character to play. Examples of the Ancestor characters are: Indian, Bride, Groom, Stewardess, Saloon Girl, Flapper, Pilgrim, Conquistador, Caveman, Cavewoman, Soldier, Sailor, etc.
Gomez Addams M 40-50 A man of Spanish descent who takes great pride in his family and revels in all it means to be an “Addams.” He struggles with having to keep his daughter’s secret from his wife, whom he adores more than death. Smart, comedic actor with tenor vocals. Husband to Morticia, if indeed they are married at all… a crafty schemer, but also a jolly man in his own way… though sometimes misguided… sentimental and often puckish – optimistic, he has full enthusiasm for his dreadful plots… is sometimes seen in a rather formal dressing gown.
Vocal Range: Tenor – B flat to G sharp.
