Directors Needed

Seeking directors for our 2020-2021 Season.
If you would like to direct for us, please follow the instructions below.
  • Submit up to two plays in PDF format to
  • Include your name, phone number and any other pertinent contact information in your transmittal email.
  • In your transmittal email, please provide a brief explanation of why you are interested in directing the play(s) you have chosen.
  • NOTE: The deadline for submissions is April 15th .
  • You will be contacted to meet with us, once the selection process has been completed.
  • When choosing your plays, keep in mind that we are a black box theatre that seats 60.
  • Please do not submit musicals.

Back Stage Theater Co., a student theater club on the Farmingdale State College campus, is in immediate need for a Director for their Spring production of Clue, the play.  Must have experience directing young adults and must have evening weekday availability for rehearsals.  Show dates are April 16, 17, and 18, 2020.  This is a salaried position.  All interested candidates should forward their resume to Sandy Lory-Snyder, Co-Advisor to the Back Stage Theater Co. at

The Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Company of Long Island is seeking candidates for 2 positions for our 2020 production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Mikado”: Music Director and Stage Director.
The term of the engagement begins in mid-November, 2019, when auditions for principals will be held.  A full-company “meet and greet” / principal read-through of dialogue takes place the first week of December.  Musical rehearsals for chorus and principals will begin the first week of January, 2020.  Staging rehearsals begin in early to mid-February.
Rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:30 – 10:00 PM, and typically take place at Chatterton Elementary School in Merrick (rehearsals are occasionally held at alternate venues in East Meadow, Bethpage and, rarely, Kings Park).  
Performances with piano / principals begin in mid-April and run through the end of May.  Full-orchestra/company performances take place from approximately the last two weekends of June through the second weekend of July, 2020.
Each position pays a base salary of $2000.00.  Bonus incentives will be given for any recruited performers who participate for the entire run.
Interviews will take place on Tuesday, August 13th, from 7:00 to 10:00 PM at the East Meadow United Methodist Church, 470 E Meadow Ave, East Meadow, NY 11554.  Interviews may also be arranged to take place that evening remotely (e.g. – Skype, FaceTime).

Take A Bow Playhouse in Plainview is looking to fill the following positions for the 2019-2020 school year: Voice teacher, Dance Instructor/Choreographer and Acting Instructor/Director.  Applicants must be able to teach proper technique, be great with children, patient, organized and ready to work in a nurturing and recreational environment! The Oceanside Library, 30 Davison Avenue, Oceanside NY 11572, seeks directors to participate in our Script-in-hand Theatre series, now in its 4th year. We present monthly performances using a rotation of directors. Material is chosen by the director, subject to library approval. Casting by the director: can be open auditions or you can come with a cast. The library provides rehearsal space, marketing and funding for licenses and scripts. This is also a perfect venue for someone staging a full-performance elsewhere who wants to use us as part of the development process. Plaza Theatricals seeks directors and choreographers who have experience working with young people, for their expanding Performing Arts Academy program. Performance workshop classes, which culminate in fully-staged productions, are held in Lynbrook.
