DescriptionAugust 20th and 21st, the Gingerbread Players return to the boards with a program of original theater. “Goodnight, Irene” is an original play from longtime Gingerbread Player Jean Tessier. Based on the stories (and lies) told by her grandmother, the play deals with how truth can get filtered through our own memories and desires. First performed in a one act version at the Manhattan Repertory Theater in 2016, this expanded version was tested on Zoom last summer and makes its live debut at St. Luke’s. Martha Morenstein stars as Irene, and elderly woman with a vivid memory about how her life’s events unfolded-and guilt over the long ago death of her stepson Bobby (Joaquin Hayes-Diaz). Farah Diaz-Tello stars as Joanna, the granddaughter who finds herself ensnared in Irene’s memories desperately trying to make peace with her own past. Rounding out the cast are Ted Burke, Bart DeFinna, Andrew Dinan, Mike Miller, Rook Reynolds, Victoria Russo, Alexis Tandit and Kimberly Tyler. Also presented are three short plays that recently premiered at the Secret Theater, directed by Johnny Culver, “Salt Mine Exchange”, “Amulet” and “The Dead Game”, by nationally known playwrights
