HISTORY OF THE COMPANY:
Theatre Box began in the Fall of 1980 when a small group gathered to stage The Folks Next Door by John R. Carroll. Over the next few years, plays and musicals with larger casts were produced, and the membership and production quality grew. Theatre Box produces two to three full scale productions each year, which include comedies, dramas, mysteries, and musicals. We are open to anyone interested in becoming a part of our hard-working, dedicated group, as we rely on volunteers to assist with each production.

PRODUCTIONS:
As of the summer of 2017, Theatre Box has produced 93 productions. We are very excited and have special plans in the works for the 2019-2020 season, which will mark the 100th show and 40th anniversary of the group.

PERFORMANCE SPACE:
Theatre Box operates in the United Methodist Church – in a space we affectionately refer to as the “gymnatorium”. While our stage is on the small side, we use every available inch to bring entertainment to our audiences.

FAVORITE PRODUCTION:
Personally, my favorite has to be our 2017 production of Godspell. Not only was the cast amazing, and one of the most hard-working group of people I’ve ever had the pleasure of directing, but the show itself grew into its own beautiful piece of art. The bond that we all formed will stay with me forever.

BIZZARRE INCIDENT:
Hurricane Sandy occurred during our production of You Can’t Take It With You. Because of the power outages, we weren’t able to perform the first weekend, and even lost part of our tech rehearsals. Somehow, with hard work and perseverance, we managed to have one fantastic weekend, broke box office records for a single weekend production, and the cast performed amazingly. It was a HUGE challenge, and I am so proud of the group for making it through such difficult circumstances.

PLANS FOR FUTURE:
We are always looking for ways to improve, both on stage and behind the scenes. We are open to ideas, suggestions or comments, and are always interested in welcoming new members to the group.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO SHARE:
We actually have a lovely announcement! One of the most consistent comments we receive (interestingly enough) has to do with our seating. As our space doubles as a gym for the Church pre-school, our seating has been folding chairs on the gym floor. While they have served us well to a point, I will be the first to admit that they are not the most comfortable things in the world. Recently we decided to do something about it, and for our Spring production, our patrons will be treated to new chairs, with extra padding for extra comfort!
